  • Every source cited in the paper must be on the reference page
  • All sources listed on the reference page must be cited in the paper
  • Starts on a separate page
  • Last page of paper
  • The word References is placed at the top center of the page

Citing Sources in APA Style

Hanging Indentation

Follow instructions in the document below to properly create a hanging indentation.

Sample Reference Page

Basic Rules

  • The first line of every source must be indented one-half inch from the left margin
    • Known as a hanging indentation
  • Start with Author's last name following with the author's first initial
  • List up to seven authors only
  • Alphabetize sources by last name
  • References written by same author should be categorized from earliest source to most recent
  • Write journal title exactly as written on journal
