Pharmacy (PharmD)

Library and web resources to support the PharmD degree program at West Coast University

AMA Style

The PharmD program requires all papers to follow the American Medical Association Manual of Style, which contains guidelines for formatting research papers and reference citations.  The WCU Library offers this Research Guide for AMA Help that summarizes basic formatting guidelines.

The Library also has access to the ebook edition of the AMA Manual of Style (11th edition, 1 simultaneous user), and a print copy of the AMA Manual of Style (11th edition) is available for use in the library:

AMA Basics

  • One inch margins (top, bottom, left and right sides).
  • 12 pt. Times New Roman font.
  • Text is double-spaced and left aligned.
  • ½-inch indent in each new paragraph.
  • Abstract is written in block style (no indention).
  • Reference sources need to be cited in the text of your paper in consecutive order by means of superscript Arabic numerals.
  • References should be listed in numerical order at the end of the manuscript.  Single spaced within citation, double-space between each citation.
  • Titles of books, journals, magazines, and newspapers should appear in italics.

Additional AMA Style Information

In addition to our own resources (such as our Research Guide), there are many other online resources that contain additional information regarding proper AMA citation and style.
