University Mission

At West Coast University, we embrace a student-centric learning partnership that leads to professional success. We deliver transformational education within a culture of integrity and personal accountability. We design market-responsive programs through collaboration between faculty and industry professionals. We continuously pursue more effective and innovative ways through which students develop the competencies and confidence required in a complex and changing world.

Institutional Learning Outcomes

Institutional learning outcomes are designed by the University as a whole, taking into account the role that both instruction and student services play in contributing to a student’s success. Institutional learning outcomes assume achievement of the stated programmatic learning outcomes of one’s discipline.

Upon graduating from a degree program offered by West Coast University, students should be able to:

  1.  Critical Thinking: Implement intellectual and practical problem-solving strategies through assessment and critical thinking.  
  2. Quantitative Reasoning:  Apply appropriate mathematical and analytical methods to guide informed decision-making.
  3. Communication:  Effectively communicate in all mediums (such as oral, written, and nonverbal) to disseminate information and ideas. 
  4. Digital and Information Literacy:  Utilize technology to identify and evaluate information. 
  5. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion:  Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of individuals' perspectives and identity while promoting a sense of belonging. 
  6. Ethics:  Apply and promote ethical reasoning in local, national, and/or global communities. 
  7. Collaboration and Teamwork:  Engage proactively and cooperatively in a variety of settings while exhibiting mindful and professional awareness of team dynamics.  

Library Services Mission Statement:

The West Coast University Library Services department provides comprehensive and quality services through academic support and advisement of students by means of a partnership, wherein opportunities for academic resources are introduced, student needs are considered, and information literacy topics are addressed. We strive to provide accurate and timely academic information and guidance, develop a library collection of quality materials, and passionately create a culture that is driven by student centric practices in physical and virtual environments. Our goal is to provide resources and services that will benefit the student throughout their educational career and beyond.

Department Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  1. Build information literacy skills by developing effective library search strategies. (Mapped to ILO 4)
  2. Integrate critical thinking skills to locate and evaluate appropriate information sources. (Mapped to ILO 1)
  3. Use the Virtual Academic Resource Center to achieve academic success. (Mapped to ILO 4)
  4. Apply ethical and legal principles in the use of information and its technologies. (Mapped to ILO 6)
